Overview

Complications related to dermatomyositis include swallowing difficulties, aspiration pneumonia, and skin involvement such as infection and calcinosis. The prognosis of the disease depends upon the response to therapy and whether complications appear in the patient.

It can have various complications depending upon the system involvement

  • Muscular involvement present as difficulty swallowing, aspiration pneumonia.
  • Skin involvement present as infections and calcinosis

Prognosis

Most cases of dermatomyositis respond to therapy. The disease is usually more severe and resistant to therapy in individuals with cardiac or pulmonary problems. Prognosis of dermatomyositis varies from person to person. Some children with dermatomyositis may recover, while other adults may die of complications. It depends on:
