Overview

Classification

Vasculitides can be classified by the size of the blood vessel that they predominantly affect.[1]

Large vessel vasculitis

Takayasu arteritis

Giant cell (temporal) arteritis

Medium vessel vasculitis

Polyarteritis nodosa

Wegener's granulomatosis

Kawasaki disease

Small vessel vasculitis

There are several vasculitides that affect small vessels.[2]

Churg-Strauss arteritis

Microscopic polyarteritis/polyangiitis

Hypersensitivity vasculitis

Henoch-Schonlein purpura

Essential cryoglobulinemic vasculitis

Vasculitis secondary to connective tissue disorders

Vasculitis secondary to viral infection
