Overview
Physical examination in patients with hypertriglyceridemia are variable. Generally, findings on physical examinations are found with very high triglycerides levels (>1000 mg/dL)
Physical Examination
General physical examination
- Increased body mass index (obesity)
- Lymphadenopathy
Eye
- Lipemia retinalis (usually with levels >4000 mg/dL)
Skin
- Eruptive cutaneous, tuberous, and striate palmar xanthomas (usually with levels >1000 mg/dL)
- Palmar xanthomas ({pathognomonic of dysbetalipoproteinemia type III)
Abdomen
- Hepatomegaly
- Splenomegaly
- Epigastric tenderness in pancreatitis
