HTPA - Hypothalamic-Pituitary Axis - This acronym is often used within bodybuilding and/or supplement descriptions where it is rarely defined. This acronym should be more widely known to those interested in bodybuilding supplements and want to do their research prior to supplementation. Certain supplements contain ingredients which if taken for a long enough period of time can lead to HTPA suppression or shutdown, this in-turn leads to increased estrogen and decreased natural testosterone production in males. Refer to Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis for further information.
