Edward Calvin Kendall
Edward Calvin Kendall [[Image:
] (b.March 8, 1886, Norwalk, CT – May 4, 1972) was an American chemist who, together with Philip S. Hench and Tadeus Reichstein, won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1950 for research at the Mayo Clinic on the structure and biological effects of adrenal cortex hormones. He was credited for the discovery of the hormone Cortisone. He earned his B.S., M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1908, 1909 and 1910, respectively.
Kendall Elementary School, in Norwalk, is named after him.
