Artificial cell
Recently, a line of scientific research has begun with the eventual goal of creating a minimal cell from artificial parts. Hence, artificial cells. There have been a wide variety of attempts to do so, and so far they have generally created only a package that can do many things a cell can do, such as transcribe and translate proteins and generate ATP but not yet a fully operational cell.
